Registered calmbirth® practitioners……..
- Maintain legal and ethical standards in their personal and professional conduct.
- Engage in continuing education to further their general knowledge of pregnancy and birth
- Ensure that their clients are fully aware of the role of the calmbirth® practitioner.
- Keep all client information in the strictest confidence and never divulge confidential information received in a professional capacity.
- Keep a record of every client who has attended the calmbirth® classes.
- Treat all other health professionals in an ethical, professional and respectful manner at all times.
- Provide clear information to clients, other birth professionals and birthing facilities about the service standards, codes and limitations of registered calmbirth® practitioners.
- Provide clear information to clients regarding the calmbirth® register and its role.
Scope of service
Registered calmbirth® practitioners……..
- A comprehensive calmbirth® course for clients enrolling with them
- Unbiased information for the pregnant woman and her partner and suggestions based on relevant informational evidence
- Assistance in acquiring childbirth knowledge for the client and her partner to base their health-care decisions on.
- Unbiased discussion of the client and her partner’s concerns in order to help the client and partner seek information and make informed decisions.
- The calmbirth® practitioner has no clinical responsibility and hence does not undertake bio-medical observations even if trained to do this in a different profession or course. For example, this means that the calmbirth® practitioner does not:
- listen to the foetal heart
- take blood pressure measurements
- take the client’s temperature
- do physical examinations
- The calmbirth® practitioner does not make comments on any medical or midwifery intervention or on any practice.
- The calmbirth® teacher does not make disparaging comments about birthing professionals or birthing venues
- The calmbirth® practitioner does not give advice about the clinical aspects of pregnancy or labour.
- The calmbirth® practitioner never prescribes treatment.
