Relationships between mother, baby and father.
Contemporary research confirms that infants are social beings who can form close relationships and express themselves in ways that show preferences during that period while they are growing and maturing in their mother’s womb.
From his research and clinical work Dr Richard Chamberlain (1998) outlines many ways babies communicate with their parents especially with their mother before birth.
Chamberlain suggests (1998) that the mother’s first communication with her unborn child happens without a great deal of awareness or intention on her part. The initial communication is in the sounds of your heart beat, music, talking, singing, humming and the usual noises of everyday life. (p 67) These are the first sounds the baby is aware of. Think of it from the baby’s point of view. How captivating and entrancing those early sounds would be to the growing and developing baby? If a mother and father are in the position of relaxed, fearless expectation of the birth then this communication is enhanced.
